From the ocean to the city
A material study on the subject of GRP recycling.
In my project, I am breathing new life into GRP (glass fiber reinforced plastic), a lightweight
construction material sourced from discarded boats, wind turbines, and other applications. Currently,
GRP is often incinerated or sent to landfills, a process that can be both costly and environmentally
taxing. As a result, it’s not uncommon to see abandoned boat hulls with unknown owners left to
deteriorate near the shore.
My research focuses on analyzing the properties and characteristics of this waste material, exploring
innovative methods for processing and recycling it. The ultimate goal of my project is to develop
sustainable recycling solutions, reducing waste and conserving resources by repurposing GRP into
new, functional applications.
